Two weeks ago we left our home in North Carolina and drove across the country to settle in our home state of Idaho.
It was a 6 day endeavor (we did stop in Nauvoo, Illinois for a whole day) with four littles (7,5,2, and 1).
I had put together little notebooks with crayons and stickers but then we were gifted a few more things that really helped keep us entertained on the drive!
These worked great for my 7 and 5 year old! They loved seeing the animals take shape from the stickers. I know there are sticker books like this one, that we’ve used in the past because they are better for toddlers.
We were gifted this game and it SAVED us in those last 20-30 minutes of the drive when we were all starting to lose it. Because we have younger kids, I would read the hints and let them guess as many times as they wanted. They enjoyed it and now we keep it in the car!
My two year old loves these! She spent a lot of time meticulously painting. My older kids never did that but it kept her entertained for many hours.
We’ve had these for years (we did upgrade to these larger sizes before the trip) and we take them everywhere. They’re perfect for church, the car, doctor appointments, events, etc.
Books
We bought a Mo Williams book and a Dick and Jane book for the trip. My oldest just learned to read and these were the books he was devouring before the trip.
We bought this before Christmas when we flew across the country and we love it! We have a handful of cards (these are our favorites) which we keep in this card case. My kids love listening to books and music at night or for quite time. Sometimes, on the trip, I’d turn a book on for all of them.
The kids use my old kindle which I loaded with some books and Audible Audiobooks. You can only listen via bluetooth bu it’s worked for us.
All our kids have these headphones which can connect via bluetooth or aux cable.
These were another gift (not these exact ones but similar) and my oldest enjoyed them. It did make quite the mess though but not too bad.
This was a gift to our one year old for her birthday, days before we left. She loved it! The older kids loved it! This kept our baby entertained the majority of the trip, even with the lights off.
These were fun for the older kids to stick to the window and play with.
These snacks containers made it easier for me to give the kids snacks. It kept the new more contained, easy to pass back and for.
Search and find dry erase
My older kids really liked these activities. It probably kept my 7 year old busy most of the time!
What have been your holy grail for road trips?
